Gmail Account worth it’s weight in gold!
I know, just what everyone needs … ANOTHER E-mail account. Well gmail allows you to partake all the amazing features of a google account. Without it … it’s much more difficult to play in the google world.
Basics of gmail.
Compose Mail opens a new message. If you’re feeling shaky, you can read more to brush up on sending messages.
Inbox shows your conversations (the number in parentheses indicates how many unread conversations you have).
Starred shows you only messages you’ve marked with a star (use stars to mean whatever you’d like).
Chats lists your archived Chat conversations.
Sent Mail shows messages you’ve sent.
Drafts houses messages you’ve started and saved to work on later.
All Mail shows you almost all of your mail; you’ll see content from your Inbox, Starred, Chats, Sent, Drafts, and all your archived messages; you won’t see Spam or Trash.
Spam is where we send the messages we think are suspicious.
Trash is where messages you delete end up; you can empty the trash whenever you feel like it.
Contacts lists the email addresses of people you’ve corresponded with; you can add more details as you see fit.
Google Calendar Rocks!
We recently implemented google calendar at goodmedia communications and WOW what a difference it makes. During a regular week … we are working in the office, out of the office, with freelancers, and off-site employees; so this calendar makes it simple for everyone to know what is going on, what is on their plate, and EVERYONE can easily make adjustments as needed.
For our clients we’ve signed many of them up for gmail accounts with access to a google calendar that we can publish directly to their company web site … and they have the ability to manage it (no coding skill required)!
Basics of google calendar.
Calendar Sharing: Set up a calendar for your company softball team, and share it with the whole roster. (Your shortstop will never forget about practice again.) Or share with friends and family so you can view each other’s schedules side by side.
Invitations: Create event invitations, send them to friends, and keep track of people’s responses and comments, all in one place. Your friends can receive your invitation and post responses even if they don’t use Google Calendar themselves.
Quick Add: Click anywhere on your calendar where an event belongs (or use the Quick Add link), and start typing. Google Calendar understands whole phrases like “Brunch with mom at Java Cafe 11am on Saturday,” and will pop new events right into your agenda.
Gmail Integration: Add your friend’s Super Bowl party to your calendar without ever leaving your Gmail inbox. Gmail now recognizes events mentioned in emails.
Search: Find the date of the Baxter family BBQ (you knew it was sometime this summer). Or, search public calendars to discover new events you’re interested in and add them to your own calendar.
Mobile Access: Receive event reminders and notifications on your mobile phone.
Event Publishing: Share your organization’s events with the world. Learn more with our Event Publisher Guide.
Read between the lines … google reader.
Google reader is quickly becoming one of my favorite features. This RSS Feed reader gives you the ability to quickly scan your favorite blogs, web sites, and other subscriptions in one simple to navigate panel. I am constantly subscribing to different web sites (mainly for creative inspiration) and google reader lets me scan ALL the new posts and read the full article without ever leaving the page.

Analyze this! google analytics.
From a small business standpoint it’s important to be able to concretely display performance to clients. Google analytics helps us do just this. This web tracking tool allows us to show our web clients the who, what, where, when about their site visitors. The analytics gives generalized and specific information about web surfers and breaks it down into everyday language. Granting access to our clients, they have the ability to check their own web site performance and as for adjustments based on real facts.
